Attendance

Attendance & Punctuality

At Birkdale Primary School we are committed to excellent attendance. We strive to ensure that every child achieves the very best attendance and punctuality.

Please see below,  the policies and procedures that we have in place to ensure that every child fully accesses their education, giving them the greatest chance to achieve their full potential.

Absence

Absences must be reported to the school office as soon as possible on the first day of absence. We have the facility for you to leave a message. However, we may call you back if the reason for your absence is unclear.

First Response

If the school does not receive notification of a child’s absence, then a ‘first response’ action is taken. This is firstly a message to request a reason for the absence. If we do not receive a response from this, we will follow up with a phone call and, potentially, a home visit. This is a safeguarding response to ensure that every child at our school is accounted for every day.

Legal Responsibilities & Procedures

Children who do not attend school regularly are less likely to achieve their full potential. As a school, it is our responsibility to ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We therefore seek the support of the Local Authority whenever irregular attendance occurs and when this subsequently becomes a barrier to learning.

Help & Support

If you are struggling to get your child into school, there are many people who can help and support you. We value excellent communication from parents/carers and would welcome the opportunity to work with you to ensure your child attends school regularly and on time – please contact our school office to discuss your concerns.
