June Update

There have been so many of you sending your work on Purple Mash this week so well done to you all!!! Remember if you are doing any different things you can always upload the photographs to our Year Two floorbook or send it on Twitter!

Next week, starting from Monday 15th June, we are following a theme around circuses. If you have never been to a circus before it might be a good idea to ask an adult at home to show you some pictures online of things you find at a circus. Please make sure you do this with an adult and start to think about why some people might not like circuses whilst others do.

Welcome to Year Two!

We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead with lots of interesting topics to learn about including The Great Fire of London, Florence Nightingale and Africa.

Keep posted on our class page and Twitter for updates and information about things we have been doing.

Mr Stevenson is our class teacher.

Mrs Watson, Mrs McLoughlin, Mrs Porter and

Mrs Crompton also work in our class.

Key Information

We aim to promote a love of reading in Year Two and have lots of exciting books we plan to share with the children.

To support this at home, please ensure your child reads regularly at home and always has their book and diary in their book bag so we can pick this up in school too.

We encourage them to change their books twice a week.

Indoor P.E will be on Tuesday afternoons

Outdoor P.E will be on Thursday afternoons

Homework books will continue to be used as they were last year; with each child receiving a set of new tasks each half term. We encourage you to support your child with completing as many of the tasks as possible as children always enjoy sharing what they have achieved with their classmates.

-Autumn Term-

During the Autumn Term, we learned all about the Great Fire of London and the important role Samuel Pepys played in recording the event. We also learned about the development of the modern Fire Service and visited our local Fire Station to see modern practices.

-Spring Term-

During the 1st Half Term of Spring, we focused on UK geography and looked at the key features of all countries within the UK. We were able to identify both the Human and Physical features of the UK and use keys to identify important information in our Atlases.

We also enjoyed our visit from Johnny the Ninja Warrior and did our best to complete the course set out. Although Mr Stevenson was not too pleased to be caught and suffer the consequence of 10 burpees!

During the 2nd Half Term of Spring, we will be studying all about Florence Nightingale (love the name). We will learn all about the importance of the lady with the lamp and the impact she made on the development of modern nursing.
