Monday 6th April Update
Hi everyone, just a little update from the Year 1 team. We are all missing seeing your smiles each morning and teaching you. We would like to thank everyone who has been completing the Purple Mash activities. We love seeing your work each day and reading your comments. We hope you and your families are safe and well and your all having fun learning at home.
We know it is the Easter Holidays now but we know that some of you will still love to learn and need some structure each day so we will continue to provide homework on Purple Mash for you to work through at your own pace.
Phonics is a key area of learning in Year 1 so if you have not already done so have a look at Phonics Play (the link is below) - the children are familiar to this at school. Also if you Google - "Top Marks Phonics" there are some good games on there for the children to play.
We miss you lots and keep checking our Year 1 class pages for more information over the coming weeks.

1R Class Page
Welcome to our class page. Here you will find lots of interesting and useful information about our class.
Class Teacher: Mrs Ramsden
In our classroom throughout the week we have a fabulous team of adults supporting us too...these are Mrs Pennington, Mrs Willocks, Mrs Stewart, Mrs McCormac.
PE Days: Tuesday (Outdoor) and Thursday (Indoor)
Homework will be sent out each half term. Each child will get a blue homework book with an information letter printed on the inside cover. We ask that children work through the activities at their own pace and then each half term we will collect them in and the children will share their work with the class to celebrate their work.
Reading at Home
It is important that you encourage your child to read at home. Each day the children will bring home their reading book and their reading diary. To change their book there is a box in the classroom and the children can put their book in the box each morning for it to be changed. An adult at home needs to sign that the book has been read.
In the Autumn Term we have lots of exciting activities planned. In English, we will be using a range of texts including Zog and The Jolly Postman. In Maths, we will begin the term focusing on our number understanding in particular place value, addition and subtraction. Later on in the term we will be learning about The Gunpowder Plot and what Guy Fawkes got up to! In Art we will be looking at the artist Paul Klee and the work he created. In Science, we will be investigating materials and our senses. These are just a few of the areas we will be learning about...watch this space to see photographs of us in action!
During the Spring term children in Class 1R will be busy learning about Animals! In Science, children will learn about the six different animal groups and this will lead into recognising the difference between herbivores, omnivores and carnivores! This animal theme will be reflected in English where one of our texts is "Lost and Found" by Oliver Jeffers. Children will then look at non-fiction texts based on penguins! In Design and Technology children will have the opportunity to make their own animal puppets using felt, glue, a needle and thread! In art we will be looking at the patterns on animal skins and discussing how to make the different shades of colour. Our work will be on display in the Year 1 corridor so keep a look out!
Parents Evening is in the Spring Term and everyone is excited to show their families their work they have achieved so far in Year 1!
