Star Group

Welcome to the STAR group page!

STAR stands for School Travel Action Representatives.

We meet regularly - usually once a week - and we discuss issues around travelling to school.

Look at some of our projects............

WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK  2012 !!!

This took place from Monday 19th March to Friday 23rd March.

Each class had a wallchart and put a tick next to the names of the children who walked to school, cycled or scooted to school or those who parked away and walked a short distance to school.

The winning class was 5/6JO !!!!!!!

Well Done to you all !!!!!

5/6 JO had a fantastic result of 82% and overall our whole school precentage who travelled to school in a healthy, traffic free way was 71% which is AMAZING !!!!!!!!!

...........................................

Our next project is 'WHEELIE,WALKIE WEDNESDAY' so look out for details about this very soon.

....................................................................
We have introduced 'WOW' this year , which stands for 'Walk once a week' and have given out some prizes to children who regularly walk, cycle or park away and walk.

AMAZING NEWS!!!!!!!!

BIRKDALE PRIMARY SCHOOL IS NOW.............

A SILVER AWARD'BIKE IT' SCHOOL!

On Friday 20th January Solomon Palmer and Bethany Webb went to the Ramada Hotel in Southport, to collect our Silver 'Bike it' award.

This award is for us all!

'Well done' to everyone for all the activities we do here at Birkdale Primary School to promote safe cycling, scootering, considerate parking, parking away and.......... walking to school.

BIKE IT has been a fantastic scheme and this term we will be designing 'Bike It' banners, joining in with 'The Big Pedal 2012' and planning our main event of the year......an Olympic Bike it Breakfast!!!!!!!!

We have entered the Sustrans 'Design a sticker' competition and the finalists from our school will be receiving a goodie bag in assembly.

Let's hope one of our school finalists wins the national competition..........fingers crossed!

Thank you to everyone who took part. Your designs were bright and colourful.....it was very hard to choose!

Thank you to everyone who brought their bikes and scooters in for 'OPERATION DRAGONFLY'.

It was a great response and hopefully it will help to prevent thefts occurring to the pupils here at Birkdale.

On Wednesday 14th March the STAR group and the ECO group visited the Eco Centre in Southport.

They worked together on a quiz and then investigated travel and eco issues using the displays at the eco centre.

We then went in to the garden to explore how materials can be reused and recycled.

The children then worked on a fantastic computer programme where they created their own slideshow about climate change, eco and travel issues.

We are hoping to show the slideshows in assembly soon and some of our slides will be made in to a banner for the school to display.

It was a great day and the children really enjoyed all of the activities!!!
